| Touring Prague: Accommodations
People wishing to tour Prague should first concern themselves with booking adequate accommodations for their trip. The type of living quarters that will best suit those looking to tour Prague depends on the length of stay and the structure of the trip. People who are backpacking across Europe, for example, obviously do not need to stay in a four star hotel for the two nights they will be in Prague. Those looking for a more elegant and luxurious experience, however, should look into booking a higher quality hotel.
Hotel Ratings
The hotels in Prague are rated similarly to those in the United States. Five star hotels are generally the best hotels a visitor can book, while one star hotels and hostels are for the more budget-minded traveler. However, to tourists looking to maintain some middle ground in their accommodations, it is worth investigating the hotel’s rating, as a difference in stars can mean the difference between certain amenities and sharing a bathroom or not.
A five star hotel has individual air conditioning and bathrooms and offers cable television and hotel pay channels. The hotel will also usually offer a mini-bar, safe, and direct-dial telephone service. Five star hotels also generally offer services like secretarial services, laundry, room service, and car parking. Some five star hotels in Prague include the Palace, located in the city center near Wenceslas Square. The Prague Radisson is also a good choice for the discerning tourist. Four star hotels are similar to the five star accommodations except they may not offer the extra amenities such as secretarial service or car parking. One four star hotel to check out is the Charles hotel, located near the famous Charles bridge.
Three star hotels are designed with the more budget-sensitive tourist in mind. These are middle class hotels with a high comfort rating. They usually have their own bathrooms, telephones, and televisions. The Olea near Wenceslas Square is a three star hotel to consider. Two star hotels are a step down from the tourist-oriented three star accommodations. These hotels may sometimes share a bathroom between hotel guests.
One star hotels or hostels usually do share bathrooms with multiple guests and may even place guests in the same room as other people, males and females separated. Price-wise, these are ideal for the student or passer-by, as they run about 15 to 20 or more United States dollars per night compared to $261 for a double room at a five star hotel.
