| Touring Prague: The Musical Halls and Concerts
Tourists can be solely of the rock-and-roll type, or they may appreciate a good classical music concert the most –either way, Prague has a music hall or concert offering that can fulfill any tourist’s desires for music during their trip.
The Classical Music Halls
Prague offers some of the best opportunities to appreciate good classical music in central Europe. There are usually several concert offerings at Rudolfinum or the Municipal House. Visitors can also enjoy a classical concert at the State Opera in Prague. Tourists should keep in mind that Prague is still part of the culturally conservative part of Europe, and tourists should act accordingly. This means it is not polite or recommended to eat or drink during a classical music performance. It is considered rude even to eat popcorn or take a popular drink like Coca-Cola, so visitors should eat well before-hand.
Classical concerts are also offered in the historic halls and churches, including St. Nicholas Church in the Old Town Square. Tourists can also check out the Prague Spring Festival, which is one of the best known and most popular annual cultural events in central Europe. The festival usually runs from May 12 each year to June 3. There is also the Prague Autumn festival, which offers classical concerts and music. This younger festival usually hosts its concerts in the musical halls of Prague around the second part of September until some time in October.
Other Musical Offerings
For tourists looking to have a more relaxed time, Prague offers several other types of music to enjoy. Visitors can party or relax in Delux, the Lavka Club, the Unijazz, and the Vagon Music Pub and Club. Other types of clubs available include jazz, disco, and rock clubs. There are even specifically English-speaking clubs for tourists who wish to communicate with other English speaking residents or travelers. These English-speaking spots can be a hot area for dating or singles, as well. Although Prague is well known for its classical concerts, there is no reason why people who enjoy other types of music cannot find their own niche when visiting the historic city.
